IE suddenly stopped launching. DBL click..pause, then nothing.

Thought immediately..hijack, virus, trojan the usual suspects.
Ran AVG and others..nothing detected..doesnt mean its not
there though.

Ran spybot S&D and others...pretty good or clean history.

Downloaded IE 6.0 today. Thought..why not try to install
on top. Nope. Same ole. Nada

Running Netscape right now..my only savior for browsing.

How do I repair this or get it straightened out?..

Thanks in advance for any help..

try going to microsofts update page, they came out
Wendsday with a fix for that.

Chris,
Try this...
From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions." That should allow IE to work.

Or.. you might also be able to browse and download programs from the address
bar of Windows Explorer.

Try the parasite removal programs again, in this order.
Download and run Run CWShredder from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Then download, install, *update* and run both of these programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/ (Remove items listed in red-others are
optional.)
Both programs should be updated after installation- before use.

If these programs don't remove the malware, HijackThis should be used to
post a log to the appropriate forum at one of these sites.

I just did try...it tells me I need to be RUNNING IE 5.0 pr

I tried to reinstall IE 6.0 jus for fun..I get an error
message during the setup process that tells me i have a
more current version..whatever that means..I downloaded and
installed the same file name only this morning..so...still
no IE at all...next idea anyone?

Don...
Thank you so much..this is a premature thanks since it will
take an idiot like me some time to try all that..but much
appreciated all the time you took to help me with the
suggestions..

Don...
just an FYI..

did all of the recommendations, and many many more listed
on the Computer health site..

Tried the grand finale to re-install IE 6.0...received the
following error message:

"The Software you are installing has not passed Windows
Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP"
"The software will not be installed" "Contact your system
administrator" (that would be me unfortunately)

that was disappointing and very perplexing, since it was
plain I was intalling software from a Microsoft site...hmmm

Anyway...I posted the log and am being patient.

Thanks again
