I've searched for viruses and I see none. I recently switched virus software
from norton to trendmicro. Even though I switched back to norton I still have
problems. I run under yahoo DSL and Im connected through a d-link DI-604
router. My brothers are wireless through the Netgear ME 102 AP. This is
probably something stupid that I'm not seeing. Any help would be grand.

That is not a slowdown, it is a total malfunction. Get rid of all firewall
and AV software (temporarily), and try to PING the base IPA of your ISP.

Probably. I'd turn the pieces (firewall, AV, etc.) back on one at a time
to know what the culprit is. Any decent bi-directional (anything but XP's
built-in job) firewall can be configured to allow apps you trust (PING,
etc.)
to access the world.
