No icons on desktop after login

Hi,

Have Windows XP on my home PC.
Ran Disk Defragmenter and after it finished did a reboot.
And now there are no icons on the desktop. Screen is blank.

Secondly did try to go thru Task Manager - Application -
New Task to open an application. but would give errors ..
Hence none of my programs are running..

Pls help with this problem...

Right click the Desktop, select Properties, Desktop, Customize

a program associated with it for performing this action.
Create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel."

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
