Well i set the computer to hibernate after 90 minutes but the selection is
not available in the shutdown menu. Is there somewhere else to enable this
feature? Didn't see anything in (control panel, power options). Is norton or
pctools disabling it? Thanks for any advice

Vista did not make it easy, or logical, but you can do it.
Go to the Power Options in the control panel
Choose Preferred plan
Then find the "change advanced settings" link
Then expand the Power Button option
Then expand the choices given.

Or expand the "sleep" button options.
(Sleep is one of the Option under the "other" arrow when you go to the start
pizza button.

I tried that but still no "hibernate" selection in the shutdown menu. I
restarted vista also.
