No drive entries found

I get the message "No drive entries found!" in Windows XP just before the
welcome screen appears.Although this does not seem to be causing any further
problems I would really like to know if it can be fixed.

I would guess you will find a file named AutoRun.INF in the root of the drives. Delete that.

I serched for AutoRun.INF and found several such files most of which are
obviously
irrelevant.I wouldn't want to risk deleting a useful file so could you
please help me
by suggesting where I should look?Thanks.

I mean in the root 'folder' of the drives. It doesn't have a name, it's just, for example C:\ or D:\, not one of the 'child'
folders, for examle, NOT C:\Windows.

You usually accidently acquire these files when you copy a CD to your hard drive. They can be deleted with no consiquence.

Go to Start/Run, and type MSCONFIG then look at the STARTUP TAB, to uncheck unwanted, checked items

The new MS beta for Antispyware has an "Advanced Tools" menu item that allows you to identify the maker and use of items on the
Windows startup list. It's called "System Explorer"

Actually,I did the opposite(chose normal start up)and it worked.Apparently it
was one of the unchecked items that caused the message to appear.Now I will
have to find which one it was before I use msconfig again.Thanks a lot for
your help.
