To create a compressed folder, start Windows Explorer, click File, click New, and then click Compressed Folder.

But there is no such a "Compressed Folder" option.

I am using XP pro upgraded from Win 98 on a FAT volume.

Please help.thanks!!

You must be using NTFS as your file system in order for compression to
be available.

Did you install a zip/unzip utility? If yes, use that to zip folders.

Otherwise, try Start> Run and type in regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

True, NTFS compression does require NTFS. However, "Compressed (zip)
Folders" are not the same thing and using NTFS is not a prerequisite for
this feature.

Start - Run the line
regsvr32.exe zipfldr.dll
