No bootable devices found

I recently had some problems with win xp, uninstalled sp2, reinstalled xp and
upgraded to sp2 again.Everything seems to be working fin but now everytime I
start up computer I get message "No bootable devices found" or no hard disk
found. After I re-start (crtl-alt-del) several times windows finally comes up
but takes a long time till I see the sign-on screen. How can I fix the
problem to boot up normally?
