No boot, can't find SAMSRV.DLL

I am running XP pro and the other day it stopped booting. I get the error
message... LCASS.EXE .... can't locate SAMSRV.DLL. I can not get to
safemode by hitting F8 at boot up so what do I do now??

I pulled the HD out and put it in my other computer and ran anti virus and
did a defrag. Same problem.

Appreciate your thoughts on this.

A successful Safe Mode boot - but a "bum" normal boot indicates a driver
problem (99% pure).

Options: 1.System Restore
2.At F8 menu select boot logging - the boot log will be in the
root directory and the one of the two last listings will
be the
culprit.
3. Run "msconfig" - use selective startup - clear all starup
items
and add several back at a time and check boot results -
time
consuming.

I ended up having to reinstall as I could not get it to go to safe mode. On
reinstall, I had 4 instances of "Bloodhound" trojan. I was surprised as I
thought that it was the Sasser trojan that affected the LSASS file.
Hopefully things are working now...
