No audio

I am using MM for the first time, and I have a Sony miniDV TRV-18 camera and
the usb cable that came with it. I am able to capture the video, but no
audio. I've read all of the other posts regarding this problem, and no
answer has worked for me. In fact, most of them aren't even an option in my
program. Do I need to install new software, or buy an Ilink cable in order
to rectify the problem? I have tried adjusting the volume levels in every
possible area, and I've changed the audio device and input source to every
possible combo that would make any sense for my camera. I'd appreciate any
help.

The first thing to try would be capture via firewire (aka iLink aka
IEEE1394)

Cari, this is the same problem I'm having. Is the fire wire different from
the cable that comes with the video cam?

Not knowing what came in your box I have no idea, but I've never come across
a digital camcorder that shipped with a firewire cable.

Well, the only identifying marks on it are "Sony" and "ZCAT 2035" and "0930"
and one end connects to the video cam and the other to the front port on my
CPU. Would you suggest I hike over to my local Radio Shack and ask them if
it's a fire wire? If not, I'll pick one up.

Ignore the fact that the website is for Macs (it just happened to be the
best picture I could find), but this is probably what the cable should look
like:

The larger end goes to the PC, the smaller end into the digital camcorder.
