no audio from Sony Handycam

I'm painfully new to all this, but I have a Sony Handycam divigital video
camera that I'm connecting to my laptop through the USB cable supplied with
the camera. When I try to transfer to Movie Maker the video comes through
fine, but there's no audio.

I see two settings for the audio capture: USB stream, which only allows the
input source of microphone, or the audio card which allows 3 options none of
which works.

I don't see any other cable slots in my PC other than the USB ports, so I'm
unsure if other cabling would work.

Sorry if this has been covered before. I've spent the last couple of hours
searching and reading posts, and it seems some replies say capturing audio
isn't possible, and other say it's possible with different cables.

You could use a firewire cable, but I presume your laptop does not have a
firewire card. When I bought my camera I had to buy the firewire cable and
card sepertly they did not come with my camera.
