No audio!

HI,
I had sound, and then one of those automatic upgrades suggested I upgrade.
But something didn't work, so I don't think I got the upgrade. But now my
audio doesn't work at all. The computer thinks it does, it says all the
speakers are working fine and when I play music it looks like they work fine,
but no sound comes out! This isn't just with playing music, I have no sound
for anything!
Did a driver or something get disabled? I can't find anything wrong, but
obviously, I'm not the most computer literate.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions!
Thanks!

Click Start > type Device Manager > right click system devices then click
on scan for hardware changes do it twice.

If that doesn't work, try reinstalling the the driver and restart the
system.

Hi Kate,

Andre is right, now instead of clicking scan for changes, right click on the
sound card within device manager, select "uninstall" it will say "are you
sure you want to uninstall" you click yes. it will then disapear, NOW reboot
your computer, it will reinstall the sound card and its drivers
AUTOMATICALLY, assuming of course that the sound card came inbuilt with your
computer, if not you may be prompted to install the drivers using the cd that
came with the card. and then try again. it SHOULD work then.

heres a quick one to try that i had to resort to, i had the latest drivers
etc but got no sound even though my media player was suggesting sound was
forthcoming.

I found that by plugging the speaker plug into what should have been one of
the surround sound speaker outputs (sub woofer) it works fine, ridiculous i
know but its the only way to get sound out of this abomination know as
Vista.

So just try all of the speaker outputs and maybe one will work for you, only
takes a second and nothing to lose

good luck
