No Audio with XP

I have a Dimension XPS R450 that we bought years ago. In the past I've been able to run Windows 2000 in this system without a problem. However, I recently upgraded to Windows XP and am experiencing a lack of audio output. When I look at my device manager list it states that the device (sound card) is working properly and that there is a driver installed. The sound card appears to be a Aureal Vortex 8820 Audio, as stated under the sound, video, and game controllers section of the device manager list

When I run a search online, I see that this sound card is known to conflict with XP, however many sites state that you just need the latest driver. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find such a driver

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Sometimes a Win 2000 driver will work in XP. I think that is your only
option besides buying a XP compatible soundcard. If you run a computer with
the XP operating system , the last thing you want to do is run non -
compatible hardware and software. The money that you spend ( simple
soundcards are very inexpensive) will be well worth the heartache you will
not have. Jym

Can you recommend a cheap sound card that is compatible with windows
xp? I checked pricewatch.com and the first ones to come up is the
aureal vortex cards. Others are generic and you never know whether
they are a aureal chipset based cards. In my situation, I also have a
pentium based system with a via chipset which also complicates things.
