No audio when capturing from Hi8 camera

I have a new Dell 4600 MCE machine with an ATI All-In-
Wonder 9000 pro card. The card works fine in MCE for TV
(audio and video). I've attached my Hi8 camcorder to the
composite connections (all 3 not just video) to try and
capture some home movies. When I try and capture video
through MovieMaker, I have 2 audio input choices; ATI
RAGE Theater Audio and SoundMAX Digital Audio (Dells
built on audio). When I select the ATI option, the input
source and input level selections are unavailable and
when I click next on the Video Setting dialog I receive
the error below. If I select the SoundMAX option I get
seveal input options but none of them produce sound when
I capture but I don't get the error below.

I know that the ATI card is hooked up to my sound card
because I get audio when I watch TV in Media Center.

Any tshooting tips on figuring this one out?

Thanks,
Scott

Sounds like it's probably a mixer setting that has to be enabled and
adjusted. Just because you can hear the audio from the TV portion of the
card doesn't mean the LINE IN on the ATI is hooked up. I suggest getting the
appropriate patch cable and go through the Dell sound card (you may need a
RCA-to-phono adapter). Then it's just a matter of selecting the LINE IN on
the RECORDING (not PLAYBACK) mixer.

To get to the RECORDING mixer, double-click on the Speaker icon in the lower
right corner, then go up to OPTIONS on that menu and select PROPERTIES. Now
select "recording". A new mixer will come up. Make sure LINE IN is selected
and the slider is up.

This should take care of your problem. Depending on which software you are
using, the on-board audio of your video card may not be supported, so using
the soundcard is another option and shouldn't affect the audio quality one
bit.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately this ATI All-
In-Wonder doesn't have an audio out port on the card. It
has a custom input port that a "dongle" plugs into for
video/audio in but there is no output other then the
custom video out plug that the monitor cable plugs into.

3 connections: Video/Audio in, Cable in, Video out.

Thanks,
Scott

I figured this out... Dell ships an "ATI All-In-Wonder
9000 Low Profile" which does not support video capture.
Their documentation makes no comment about how to watch
or record from other sources other then cable or
satellite. Their video out connector does not have audio
out cables which typically would be connected to the line-
in port on the audio card.
