Most of these hits provide lots similar problems, but only standard
solutions that we've already tried. Perhaps the Microsoft guy will help me
with this when he figures out the Windows Update trouble. Thanx for the
help.

hi, would you mind telling me how you 'optimised your bios settings' to get the sound working.
I have the same problem, had a look in bios settings but there is nothing there about audio or something that can optimise the bios. did you used a special bios program?
Help would be much appreciated
regards
Christian.
Hp Pavillion dv6000 series(dv6810eg)downgraded from Vista to XP

If the sound is provided from an on-board sound card, then there should
be a setting in bios that will toggle it on or off. More likely, however,
is that the required Windows XP sound driver files were not installed,
perhaps along with other Windows XP utility files. If they are available
from HP, then download and install them.

Thank you!!! I have an HP Pavilion Desktop PC model a6203w, and I also had
changed operating systems from Vista back to XP Professional because of all
the problems I was having with Vista. Everything worked fine except no
sound. I started checking around, found that HP has nothing, other people
are having the same experience -- and after messing around unsuccessfully for
ages I found your post and this link. It works! I now have sound and really
- thanks so much.
