I wanted to install program into my main directory, but to do so the
computer said I needed and admin's permission. I tried to become an
admin, but it said I need an admin's help for that too. I am a home
user, and my computer never had an admin. How do I become one, or
preferably, Make it so it doesn't ask for administrative assisstance?

reboot and go to safe mode
(hit F8 just before the OS loads)

you should be able to log on as administrator...

when you installed XP if you did not assign an administrative password...
just hit enter when it askes for one...

if you did assign a password and forgot it

then things will be a bit difficult

Just do this at the WELCOME screen:

CTRL+ALT+DEL
CTRL+ALT+DEL

This means you give "three finger salute" at the welcome screen. You
get the welcome screen when you start the PC and on the screen you have
to select the username!!.

If you don't get this Welcome screen then the chances are you only have
one user who is also an administrator i.e. YOU. Something has gone
amiss here if you get the message that yu are not an ADMINISTRATOR under
this circumstances.

How to login as Administrator in Windows XP?
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/admins.htm

If you have XP Home then read this part:

<quote>
In Windows XP Home Edition, you can login as built-in Administrator in Safe
Mode only.

Starting your computer in Safe mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

When you are in Safe mode, create an Administrator account for you, then log
in normally with the Account you just created and install the program.
