No Account option in Tools menu

Jay

Hi,

Over the phone, I recently tried to talk someone through adding a new
pop3 account in Outlook. I told her to select Tools > Accounts, but
she told me that there was no Accounts option in the Tools menu. I
asked her to read out the other options in Tools, and they seemed
familiar.

I asked to the to choose Help > About Outlook to find the version, and
it turned out to be Outlook 2000 without any service releases/packs.
It's on a home PC so I'm assuming there's no Exchange server. She
already has an account set up, and is able to send/receive email.

Any ideas on what's happened?

Sure. You have not yet correctly identified the Outlook version and mail
support mode.
I suspect the user is using Corp/Workgroup mode of Outlook 2000.

Does she have a Services option on the Tools menu? She might be using OL2000
in Corporate/Workgroup mode even if she's not using an Exchange Server.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Sorry about the lack of Outlook
version information - I didn't think to ask when I was on the phone to
her.

I'll phone her again later and ask her to check what Vince has
suggested.

By the way, is there a way to add an extra internet email account in
Corporate/Workgroup mode?

You can add as many Internet accounts as you wish, but Corp/Workgroup is
very poorly suited to handle multiple accounts. That's the whole reason they
came up with IMO temporarily.

Thanks Russ. I didn't manage to get i touch with her. In case she
doesn't want to change the mode, what steps does she need to take to
add an account in Corp/Workgroup mode. I accept that this isn't the
best mode to use.

Same as always: Add an Internet Mail Transport to the profile and configure
it with the mail servers settings.
The only way to change which account mail gets sent from in Corp/Workgroup
mode is to change the delivery order shown here: Tools menu > Services >
Delivery tab.
