no access to microsoft.com

i recently noticed i cannot connect to any microsoft/ pages. Everywhere else is fine.
im on win98 .. fully updated and patched. ive scanned with every tool imaginable and its as clean as can be
ive read all the posts below and nothing has helped. i dont have a hosts file etc.
out of curiosity i just formatted and reinstalled everything with the system recovery cd that came with the pc, then updated IE and windows via the update site. I still cant connect to microsoft.com. any ideas would be appreciated
 
hmm, if i disable proxy server in my internet.. connect options, i CAN connect to microsoft. :
dont know why i never tried that before
