no access on printer by Standard User

Andreas Knop

System: Windows 2000 SP4

Printer: HP psc 2105 with the actual driver from the HP download-page

Problem:
I use windows 2000 just at a local PC without network but with different
User-Profiles. only Administrators can print on the printer. The
Standard Users cannot. The documents are always deleted from the
printing queue.

Message from the System-Event-Viewer:
'The document XXXPage owned by XXXUser failed to print. Win32 error code
returned by the print processor: 5(0x5).'

Any suggestions?

error 5 is access denied

verify that users have write access to the spool directory. Default is
\windows\system32\spool\printers

If that does not work give the user more rights to the
\windows\system32\spool\drivers (not sure just once someone said this
worked).

If those to not work contact HP and find out if the driver writes any tmp
files any place and give users write access to those directories.
