NLB Web Cluster

Patrick G.

Setting up a 2 node NLB Web cluster. My client machine
has no problems accessing the web page on either server
outside of the cluster. When I set up the NLB cluster the
client gets a "403 Forbidden You are not authorized to
view this page" error.

Anonymous access has been granted using both a local
machine account and a Domain account with no results.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Patrick,

Since you are getting a 403 message back, the cluster is receiving requests
and returning replies and NLB is doing its job. The problem lies in the
application layer with IIS. I can't definitively tell you what the problem
is...but I've seen this return code when requesting a directory for which
directory browsing is not enabled. In other words, authentication failures
aren't the only reason that you could get a 403 error.

What happens if you repeat the test through a dedicated IP address? How
about when NLB is not bound? Someone else might have some ideas to help you
troubleshoot further. If you don't get the help you need through this
newsgroup, try posting to microsoft.public.inetserver.iis.

Cheers,
Chris
