Nix on automatic date changes

I dislike the FP feature that automatically updates all pages that are linked
to a page that's been manually edited. This screws up me up in many ways.
Is there any way around it?

I'm not talking about inserting a timestamp in a page -- I mean the date
attribute in Front Page Explorer. I edit one page in a folderr, and the date
attribute of every other page in that folder automatically gets updated, too.
Can this be changed?

P.S. I'm still using an old version of Front Page (98), so I wouldn't know
if this feature is different in newer versions.

Thanks.

If you are using shared borders or modifying the FP navigation structure or have a include page that
is included in other pages, then all pages will be updated when you make a change. The solution
would be to not use any of these features.

However, why do you have a problem with this?

As copy chief and I need to easily see when files have been manually edited.
Also when I'm making systematic changes to all pages, the date is the only
way I can tell which pages I've already done.

I assume when you say "modifying the FP navigation structure" you're talking
about adding, deleting, or changing links, yes? I understand that FP would
automatically change the date of a file if a link is added to it that affects
other pages in that folder. But there should be a difference between that
kind of an update and an actual manual edit.

Where you say "or have a include page that is included in other pages" --
not sure what you mean by that.

Thanks.

Include Pages:
FP Include Page component.
Shared Borders component or Themes with Shared Borders

If you are using FP Navigation component and you make a change every page displaying the navigation
component is updated, since the all of these items mentioned are design-time components, meaning
that the content is add to each page when you make/save the changes.

FP uses the file date to determine which files need to be publish to the live/remote server when you
use the FP Publish function.

Basically this is FP's strongest point, managing a web site's content, and it basically have not
changed in newer versions.

What do you mean by manual edits?

FP can not manage any changes done outside of the FP environment.

Check your date properties (Date last edited vs. Date last automatically updated)

Not an option in FP98.
