Built from the ground up specifically for Microsoft Windows Vista, this
all-new version combines the reliable and easy-to-use features you've always
loved from Yahoo! Messenger with the cutting-edge experience of this new
operating system.

a.. Instant message, voice, webcam video, and more
b.. Use the integrated Yahoo! Messenger Sidebar gadget to keep up with the
friends that matter most
c.. Also add Windows LiveT Messenger friends to your contact list to see
when they're online and IM them
d.. Keep conversations organized by dragging and dropping them into one
tabbed window
e.. Brand new emoticons, program icons and alert sounds
f.. Instantly change the look and feel of your Yahoo! Messenger interface
g.. Automatic groups are created in your contact list based on your Yahoo!
interests (i.e. Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football league)

I was a beta tester for WLM 8.0. There were a multitude of things that I
suggested to make WLM a better product such as "true" videoconferencing
(being able to use video for more than one person at the same time), tabbed
conversations, etc. I was told at the time, that I could download patches
to "resolve" most of these. But then I thought -- why doesn't MS just do
it? Why do I need to rely on 3rd party software? Doesn't MS have the
qualified technical people to make this happen?

And now, here comes Yahoo! Messenger for Vista. While I'm sure it won't
completely fulfill my (or anyone else's) wish list, it's still a FAR CRY
from the current WLM 8.1 Beta. I can only hope that MS pulls its head out
of the sand, and comes up with an upgrade to WLM that utilizes all of
Vista's capabilities. And satisfying THE CONSUMER wouldn't be a bad idea
either. Otherwise, what's the point of suggesting improvements?

I can assure you that I could take that yahoo messenger and make it 10 times
better... even more innovative.
I may not be a programmer but I know my technology, and what people want
before they themselves know.

All of vista, ie7, wmp11, office2007 and windows live mail desktop has the
same snobbish attitude by MS.
They didn't listen. They wanted to do what they wanted, and closed their
ears to the voices of reason.

With the technology we have today we could do miracles...
but it seems Microsoft doesn't really care.

its hard to explain to people what "could" have been
because most of them lack imagination, so they see only
what "is". This is why I am frustrated with many people in the vista
newsgroup.. .because they lack this insight.. the vision for an alternate
better reality that
we could have had, if the people who are making software did what they
supposed to be doing.
I see this as a lack of leadership and guidance.. its not the programmers
fault who is writing the code..
he is just following the guidelines. Its the people who create the "vision"
of what software should be like
that matters more.

This reminds me of what some companies do when they make platforms....
They make a platform... that is capable of a trillion things.. and then they
leave it up to other amature 3rd party developers to do stuff....
A simple example is the stardock and yahoo gadgets. They made the platform..
but left it to the users to make the actual gadgets.
What was the result of this? You have a super duper platform but nothing
interesting to work with it...
They left it to the kid-geeks to develop these with their own resources and
limited knowlage...
(Same mistake with the vista sidebar by the way). What should happen was for
these guys to have developing teams making
these gadgets and pushing their complexity to the limit, so they can guide,
inspire and lead others to do better things.

This same thing is what Microsoft should have done...like live messenger...
that was just like msn messenger with a few small features thrown in
and a different skin. WMP11? That was ugly and pathetic.... and I wont
mention IE7.

They should have put all effort into making these 10 times better and more
innovative than what they are....
So they could set the pace for everyone to follow.

And everything about vistas GUI is stupid.. They may have nice technology
under they hood.. but the os has too many problems,
and it lacks inspiration.

So its up to a few 3rd party companies to try to understand what you can do
with the underlying capabilities of vista... its like
a game of hiding the goodies.. and you have to take a shovel and start
digging to find them out! lol...
That's a bad way of doing things..... so what will happen is some guys like
yahoo will do the start.. then others will follow...
but this all is a far slower process than what could have been.

Microsoft has made an endless chain of mistakes that is retarding the
advancement of technology....
I think people should group up and sue them for a crime on humanity.

I must be getting old. For a moment there I thought you were talking
about the Bush Administration.
