I would just like to say 'Nice Try' to the moron who 'tried' to
send me W32.Swen.A@mm 3 times posing as AOL & Microsoft.
Thanks to NAV, (yeah, I know, some people don't like Norton..)
my system remains unaffected.
But even without anti-virus protection, I know spoofing when I see it.
What a pathetic attempt..
Why do I post this here you might ask?
Because it is only since I posted that the ONLY three emails I recieve
a short time after are those. No-one else knows that email address.
Yes, silly me for including my actual email address; lucky my ISP allows
me to add and delete addresses as I please which has now been done.
I find it bazaar that in a Microsoft newsgroup, where people post their
WinXP
and assoc. problems for assistance, they also send out virus' using a dodgy
Microsoft
email template which has 'fake' written all over it.
I know Microsoft NEVER send out updates via email.
On top of all that, my windows update problem hasn't been solved or even
replied to.
So, thanks for nothing.

Hi,

These newsgroups are often harvested for addresses by spammers and the like.
No one intentionally sent it to you, you got it because your email address
is now public knowledge and is archived. This is an unfortunate side effect
of the most recent waves of bugs going around. All you can do is set up
filters to automatically delete the garbage, or change your email address
and hide or munge it in the future.

Maddison,

If your computer problem was as detailed as your complaint here, then I
don't buy you didn't receive any replies for it.

ps-this is my real e-mail address but only allow e-mails from people I've
known for years.

Drew

Hi Drew,
Yes, my prob was explained in detail. If you scroll down for
a bit
my post is titled 'Windows Updates not installing!'
I might re-post and give it another try.
Thanks \=^)~

Maddison.

Re: origonal msg as to updates; you've accessed via start/wupdate or IE
tools/ ?
Tried selecting a single update only to install?
There are two specific ms.public ng's for winupdate

Hi DL,
Yes, I have accessed Win Upd in every way possible.
And yes, I have tried just selecting just one update, and even alternated
that 1 update. Even tried just drivers, just WinXP updates and just
critical updates. Nothing will install, just download. Got me stumped..

You had your real e-mail address in your account settings in OE when you
posted your original question - and it's been 'harvested' by the SWEN virus.
Not by an individual, but by a virus.
Remember, these are peer support forums, and people are volunteering their
own time to help others (or at least to try), so playing nice with the other
kids will always yield the best results. I also note that you have many
replies to your two identical posts about your WU problems, so people are
attempting to help you....

Hi Lanwench,
Yes, I was aware I put my email address in my account
settings in OE, that's why it is now different. I haven't had any more
emails
since as that email address no longer exists.
In my first post, Windows Updates not installing! , if you take a closer
look,
the reply was someone else explaining that he/she has the same problem.
I then replied to that. That's all it is.
My 'Nice try' post was only aimed at the culprit, not all the good guys and
girls who spend their time and expertise assisting everyione with their
WinXP
and accoc. problems. They have my respect.
That's why I reposted my prob and received a prompt reply from Rick in which
I thanked him for.
I will also try the windows update ng per your suggestion.
Thanks,

Maddison \=^)~
