NIC Problem

I can Ping my own IP address. The LED on the hub is
showing as connected. The connection Status shows
connected but I can't connect to any other PC across a
peer to peer network.

Hope someone can help.
many thanks in advance

First guess: you have firewall apps on your PCs, and they are mis-set.
If you have XP and ICF is enabled, you must permanently disable it,
since it will inhibit F&P sharing. If you have any other firewall
apps, uninstall them while you debug your net.

Second guess: your PCs are not in the same IP subnet. Run WINIPCFG
on W9x PCs to see the IPA; for XP, run CMD, then type IPCONFIG/ALL
in the CMD window. For IPA=a.b.c.d, all PCs must have the same
a.b.c and unique d's; and, all should (typically) have a subnet
mask of 255.255.255.0. If the hub is a simple (non-routing) hub
and its uplink port goes to an ISP, the ISP assigns the IPAs;
some (most?) ISPs do not guarantee that multiple IPAs will be in
the same IP subnet; if that's your problem, then you must replace
the hub with a router.

My above two guesses are *not* an exhaustive list. Far from it.
