NIC issue on Windows 2003 Server.

After I upgraded my Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server, everything
still worked fine. My Windows 2003 Server has 2 NICs.

After the upgrade was successful, I went to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to download and install all critical
patches for Windows 2003 Server.
After all critical patches were installed and the server was rebooted, I
could not connect to my Microsoft 2000 Domain anymore.

The NIC icon next to the computer clock, has a question mark on it. When I
place my mouse over it, the following message appears "Windows cannot connect
to a network at this time. Please update your network address"

When I check the Property of the NIC in the "Support" tab, it shows the
following:
Address Type: Invalid IP Address
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway: blank

When I click the "Repair" button on the "Support" tab in the Property window
of the NIC, I get the following message:
"The following steps of the repair operation failed:
Refreshing all DHCP leases & re-registering DNS names.
Please contact your network adminstrator or ISP"

This issue occurs whether I use Dynamic IP Address (via DHCP) or Static IP
Address, and this issue occurs regardless which NIC I use.
I know each NIC is working because the connectivity lights of the NIC are
blinking, and I could ping 127.0.0.1

This issue only occurs on this one Windows 2003 Server. This server only
has Symanted AntiVirus on it, and my other Windows 2003 Servers are working
just fine.

Please help.

Regards,
Ibnu.

Hi Ibnu,

Can you please answer the following questions?

After you configure with the static address can you ping the default
gateway?

And also can you give us the network monitor capture and the error you are
getting while you are renewing the ip address (ipconfig /renew).

You can install the network monitor tool from Add/Remove
Programs->Add/Remove Windows components-> Managing and Monitoring
tools->Network Monitoring tools.

Thanks,
vamsi.

Hi Vamsi,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Unfortunately, I already rebuilt the server, and it has no problems now. I
think the issue was with the NIC driver, but I am not sure.

Thank you very much for your time in replying my question.
