NIC IP

Running WIN2K with a Dlink NIC hardwired to a Linksys 8
port switch with a sepatate router.

Every 24 hours, the NIC loses the IP address set by the
switch and the gateway to the router is lost thereby
losing internet access on that PC. The PC can still
access the network. IPCONFIG/renew does not work. The
only way to reestablish the IP address and more
importantly, the gateway to the router is to reboot the
PC. Doing so also seems to reset the 24 hour clock for
the NIC to lose connection again.

What can I do to stop this from happenning?

Don't know offhand but check your computer [cmos] , operating system, and
network adapter settings for power management settings. Something must be
causing it to power down on a regular schedule that is causing the problem.
Otherwise simply configure it with a static IP the is comaptible with the
network and disable the DHCP on the router or make sure that the range of
addresses it assigns does not include the static IP you use. --- Steve
