NewsGroup Question

Hi,

This is a repost from 10/22, didn`t see any answers to the question, so
hoping someone will anser this time.

To some this will seem like a silly question, but since I`m still new to the
News Group using OE to read them, how do I get access to the other messeges
in one news group? For example, I see in windowsxp.general there are
(95434) unread messages. But on my messege pain, I probably only see 50 or
100 at a time. As I delete messeges I don`t need, it gets smaller untill
newly created messegs appear. So incase I want to actually read all 95434
messeges, how would I do that? Thank you

Jeff

Use a News Client such as OE or Netscape Messenger and you can access the wealth of all
News Groups, public and/or private.

The following will take you "HERE" via your default News Client.

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

In OE, Tools, Options, Read. Clear the box that says Get '300' headers
at a time. (The 300 can be changed.)

Warning: OE will get all the messages in the newsgroup, even the ones
marked read. (It just doesn't show them to you.) The resultant cached
file will be huge for some groups.

Thank you all for the responses, I can now view them all. I know for some,
they would wonder why I would want all 98,000 messages, but since reading
the newsgroups, I have found a lot of useful information. Who knows what I
can find from months ago. Thanks again

Check under the 'tools/options' menu and then under the 'read' tab - i
the 'get XXX headers at a time' ticked? - untick it & you should b
able to download everything. Alternatively use a standalone newsreade
like 'FreeAgent'

There's no need to keep all these old messages on your computer.
Yes, there can be lots of good information in older messages, but
the way to find it is with a google search at
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en
