Newsgroup "killfile"

Mark Rae

Hi,

I have set up a News rule to delete newsgroup posts where the From address
contains certain email addresses.

Problem is that when a new post is received from one of these email
addresses, Windows Mail doesn't delete it immediately - instead it shows it
as "Message could not be displayed".

The message is deleted only after I move to anther newsgroup and then back
again.

Is there any way to set up the rule so that Windows Mail doesn't even
download messages from blocked senders or, at least, delete them
straightaway...?

Any assistance gratefully received.

Mark

I have mine set to "Delete from server" and I never even see them at all.

I don't appear to have that option...

The only options I have in the Action box are:

Delete it
Highlight it with color
Flag it
Mark it as read
Mark the message as watched or ignored
Mark it for download
Stop processing more rules

Strange... it is definitely there on my actions.
I have Vista Ultimate. Perhaps it has to do with the version of Windows.

It is not an option on the News Rule tab.

Blocked sender would be the best option for the OP?

It isn't on my Ultimate either.

You are using a mail rules not new rules. I don't see delete from server
under the news rules.

On my Home Premium, in WinMail & in WinLiveMail, it's there on Mail rules,
but not on News rules.....

Ah - that would explain it...

OK - I'll move the email addresses from the News rule into Blocked Senders and try that...

I think you'll find that Blocked Senders doesn't work in newsgroups.
But let us know either way.

You're right - it doesn't...

So, does anyone know of how to make rules work properly in newsgroups?

Or is this yet another example of something that Windows Mail can't do but
which OE did perfectly...?

I right-click on a message, select Junk E-mail, Add sender to blocked sender
list.

It works. Until they change their email address.

OK - I'll give it another try...

Thanks.

I don't have that option - is that another feature that's not available to
News messages...?

Sorry, I was in WLM... it's easier there.

In Windows Mail,
you can open a news message, click on Message on the toolbar, select Junk
E-mail, Add sender to blocked sender list

Or go to Tools - Junk E-mail options - Blocked senders
and add the email address there.
