I have set up a mail rule for my news accounts. It is supposed to delete
messages that were sent more than 2 days ago. I have still got mail in there
from 9 days ago. I downloaded them 9 days ago too. Can anyone please help?
Appreciated.

I apologise if anyone has already replied to this, I may have deleted the
response by mistake.

Setting up a "mail rule" will only affect your email account.
You need to setup a "news rule" for your "news accounts".

while in the newsreader hit tools, message rules, news. then set condition
of where message was sent days ago, click delete for action, and under
description click the highlighted day and set the # you wish.
It seems you have created a rule for email which will not work on news. you
have to set up separate rule for news.
hope that helps.

I forgot to mention that to apply it you have to choose the folder when you
hit apply now. I hit browse and it shows all my newsgroups and the news
server. I clicked the server and it applied rule to all the groups in that
server.
hope that helps

Kevin;
Tools | Message Rules | News...
Make sure the News Rules tab is the one showing!
===========
Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the message was sent more than 2 days ago
Delete it
and stop processing more rules

I don't think the OP wants to make a *NEWS* rules, as he seems dead-set
on getting his *MAIL* rule to work on his news account.

Some people just can't be helped.

Read Carey's correct answer again. A mail rule isn't supposed to
work on news accounts. You need to set up a news rule for news
accounts.

Post your rule exactly as it reads. OE Message Rules can only be applied to
new, incoming messages, Kevin, otherwise you must Apply the rule manually.

kurttrail;
I just post what I know about a particular question.
Doesn't matter if anyone even reads the post.
Maybe he will make his Mail rule work on his news account.
Boy, won't the rest of us look silly?
:o)

LOL! Yeah, would that be a kick in the ass!

But I'm still gonna wait for his post asking why he can only keep 9 days of
mail. ;-)

Unless OP applies the rule manually, it won't delete any mail already
downloaded.

Thanks PArty-pooper Bear, for pointing out the flaw in what was just meant
to be a joke.

I replied: "Setting up a "mail rule" will only affect your email account.
You need to setup a "news rule" for your "news accounts".

You said: "It is a mail rule. It just doesn't seem to work"

Now think rationally for a moment.....

1. A "mail rule" only applies to "email messages"
2. A "news rule" only applies to "news messages"

Now repeat after me:

1. If I make a "mail rule", the "mail rule" applies only to email....not to news.
2. If I make a "news rule", the "news rule" applies only to news...not to email.

Are we making any progress with this issue, or are we still a tad confused?
