"news" does not appear as command for "Go" category.

I recently installed Outlook 2003. I want to access newsgroups. As
instructed I went to - add remove buttons/customize/categories and then
selected Go and found 'news' in Commands. I dragged it to Go and all worked
once. After a fresh start 'news' had Disappeared from 'Go'. I repeated the
process and now 'news' is no longer available as a Command, nor is it
available under "Go". I re-ran the CD and did a 'repair'. Still no 'news'
under Command. Solution please.

Outlook does not actually handle News itself. It uses the Outlook Express
newsreader. Have you disabled Outlook Express? In Internet Options, Programs,
select Outlook Express as your newsreader.

Hi Mary. Thanks. I checked and OE was and has been selected as my
newsreader as I used it in XP Pro. While waiting for a response I opened OE
(from outside O 2003) to check the newsgroup and in so doing it said that "it
was not selected as my newsreader, etc" so I selected it there, checked the
group and then went back to O-2003 and went thru the drill as before. Sure
enough, "News" reappeared under Commands. Somehow it got de-selected at some
point. Your info started me i the right direction. Many thanks.

You'll be sorry. That was the wrong choice. It will be broken again the next
time you use it.
Try reading the many thousands of posts in this group that answer your
question, reposted for those who do not know how to search posts:
To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.
