Cannot Access "News" Option

Hi:

Running MS Office Outlook 2007 and cannot access the "News" option to
subscribe to MS Newsgroups.

When I use the drop down arrow for Add/Remove Buttons>Customize>Commands
Tab>selecting GO under Categories it does not show the option News under
Commands where I can drag it to the Toolbar and establish a MS Newsgroups
Account.

Does anyone have an idea as to why "News" is not listed?

As I recall from reading other replies in newsgroups, and even if you have a
newsreader designated in Internet Options -> Programs, OL2007 will not show
a "News" menu entry (that runs some OTHER program since Outlook does *not*
support NNTP) when run under Windows 7. There really is no point in showing
a News menu in Outlook when Outlook has nothing to do with newsgroups and
instead starts some other program to handle NNTP (network news transfer
protocol). A shortcut in a toolbar in the Windows taskbar is just as
convenient, if not more, for starting your newsreader as having to drill
through menus in Outlook (after first having to load Outlook to then just go
start some other program).

Did you actually install OL2007 on Windows 7 to test your claim?

From what I've read, the News entry is missing and there is no "news"
command available when customizing the Go category to let users add the News
command /when/ running under *Windows 7*.

Since Windows 7 doesn't come with a newsreader, there isn't one that can be
ran by the News command in Outlook. According to this article:

"Win7 does not include a mail and news client and Outlook does not
recognize Windows Live Mail or other clients, only OE and Vista's Mail,
neither of which come with Win7."

So installing a newsreader in Windows 7 will still not get the News command
available to add to the Go menu.

Early builds of 2010 had the News command if your OS has an nntp client
included. I only have it on win7 right now, so I can't check if the new
builds do.

Current version of 2010 has no News command even on Win XP with Outlook
Express installed.

I did in my first reply when I said "when running under Windows 7". It was
obviously a conditional solution. The OP never bothered to mention WHICH
version of Windows that they use. It's unimportant what versions of Windows
you and I use as far as the problem with the OP. That it works for you when
not using Windows 7 is irrelevant to the OP. The OP said that the News
entry was missing when trying to customize the Go menu. That happens with
OL2007 under Windows 7. So without the OP actually specifying which version
of Windows that they use, it is likely they use Windows 7 to encounter the
problem that they described.

Uh huh, still trying to save face, Russ. The rest of us know when the News
command is not listed.

Hardly. My face is beyond saving.
What I'm referring to is the fact that the OP did not specify an OS. If, in
fact, the OS is Windows 7, then of course you're right. In my world I
consider both Vista and 7 as meaningless betas since the software I need
won't run on either. So I did not assume the OS to be Windows 7.
