i want to set up a dhcp server. i have a small network with 6 computers on
it, most are running win 2000 o.s. and 2 are on xp. where do i begin? do i
need particular software?

no need. if you have windows 2000 server, select add remove programs, under
add windows component, select networking services then tick on the Dynamic
Host Configuration Protocol. on the administrative tools, select a range of
IPs.
