Hi there

After many years of using Outlook express I am locking at moving over to
Outlook. What I am about to ask has probable been asked a thousand times on
the group, but I'm new here so I'm sorry.

I am using Outlook 2000

I have run Outlook for the first time and said yes to the default directory
where the files are held, thinking that I would be able to change it after
like in express, but I can't see how, where or how do I change this
directory?

I have a main pc and a notebook, don't know if this can be done but can I
sync the data between the 2 systems? If not if I copied the files from the
main pc directory to the note book and then back again would this work?

Under contacts, if the contact has more than one email address if asks you
if you want to send it to 1,2,3, but doesn't show you which address if
which, is there anyway of doing this?

Also in the, I have imported all my email address, but it's displaying them
last name, First name, I have told it to show the other way round via sort
but did not work. The only I can see to change this it to go through each
contact and change the display order, it there a quicker way?

Also to use newsgroups it keeps opening outlook express as a newsreader, is
this right?

Thanks

Brian,

This is my first time ever responding to someones post, so I will do my best
to help you.

Location, Location, Location: If you right click on the "Personal Folders"
in Outlook , then click on advanced it will tell you where the PST file is
located. The only semi-easy way that I know of to change the location of the
PST is to close Outlook, move the PST file to where you want it to be
located. When you re-open Outlook it will say that it cannot locate your
Personal Folder, and will open a "Open" box. Use that and navigate to where
you have moved the PST, select the PST file you would like to use and there
you go. There are other ways but , as far as I know that is the easiest.

Contacts: To change the way they are listed go here; Open Outlook, go to
Tools, then Options, then, under Preferences, select Contact Options. You can
change the view there.

Default Newsgoups: Actually, I think you want to change that setting in IE (
Internet Explorer ). Open IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, then select the
"Programs" tab. You will see the default program set for your newsgroups,
just pull down the drop down menu and select Outlook or whatever program you
want to use for your newsgroups.

For the Syncing of your PST, if you have a network set up, is to store the
PST on the desktop, share the folder in which it resides. On your laptop, map
that desktop shared folder and point your outlook to use the PST on the
mapped drive. One of the many downsides to that is that you would not be
able access your old email whene your were at home. I guess you could do
opposite of what I just said and store the PST on the laptop, share that
folder, map to it on your desktop, then your PST will be with you wherever
you go. I think you get the idea.

Let me know how it works for you.
