Newbie question - PP 2000 and mp3 files

Is there a way to make an mp3 file stop playing in Powerpoint 2000,
triggered by the introduction of another mp3 file?

I know how to use "custom animation" to make an mp3 play for X number
of slides. I'm just wondering if there's a way to make it play until
encountering another slide with an mp3, then stop playing.

I do have PP set up to integrate mp3 files of up to 6 meg in size.
Any other tips for making a show of about 20 minutes, incorporating
photos, some text, and background music, and have a pleasing
synchronization of the effects?

Youo best bet is to convert it to a WAV file. You'll need to get a utility
or sound editor to do it.

I'm not sure it would be practical, given that the mp3 files are
already 4-5 meg in size; the WAV files would be way larger.

Different question: I noticed that I can include a sound file on a
slide and direct the slides to keep advancing while the sound file
plays. And it works nicely if I have (for example) a 2:47 sound file
on the first slide, then put a second sound file on the slide that is
up 2:47 later, and so on.

But does Powerpoint 2000 have a "timeline view" so I can see at a
glance how many minutes and seconds into the presentation each slide
is?
