newbie question please!

Hello how do I transfer a miniDv to dvd without any loss of quality. I
already have a firewire port. I've tried with software and the quality is
terrible. I guess the better question is do I need to have a real time
capture card or better software instead? thanks.

you're not saying much considering their is a dozen or two different ways to
handle it.
