New XP Installation Won't Network with Other XP PC

I installed Win XP SP2 on a new PC and connected it to another PC (with XP
SP1) via a router (D-Link DI-604). The broadband internet connection via the
router works for both PCs but I can't map a drive to either PC.
The message I get from the SP1 PC is "network path not found" and the SP2
does not even recognize the SP1 PC when I try to map a drive. I have tried
network wizards, set all drives to share, and checked the workgroup name
(MSHOME). When I ping the SP2 PC from the SP1 PC, all packets transfer OK
but get a "Request timed out" message when I ping from the SP2 PC.
Shouldn't this be easy with XP? Prior to using SP2, I had networked a Win
98 SP1 PC to the XP SP1 PC without any problem.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on both computes. If it detects the
router's shared Internet connection, tell the Wizard to use that
connection. If it doesn't, tell the Wizard that the computer connects
to the Internet through a residential gateway.

If there's a firewall program (Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm, PCCillin,
etc) on either computer, make sure that it's configured to allow
access on the local area network.

Check for misconfigured / overlooked firewalls, and for registry setting
restrictanonymous, on both computers.

If no help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, as
a diagnostic aid. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely:

Hi!

I am having similar problems with our network. For starters, regarding the
link on IPCONFIG /ALL, what if the registry does not have the entry
EnableProxy?

Hi Pia,

Could you please start a new thread, describing your problem in a bit more
detail. It's to your benefit to do this - we can help you much better that way.
