New XP installation doesn't work

I just put a new Western Digital hard drive in my
computer (AthlonXP2100+, Soyo Dragon Ultra MB) and tried
to install the XP that I had on my previous HD.
Everything went well until installation completed and my
computer rebooted. I get the opening "Windows XP" screen
and then just an empty black screen for 5-10 minutes.
Then I get a box over the blank screen saying that
Windows is resizing my screen and, after I go through the
resizing, it moves right into the correct sequence of
asking my about my networking, language, clock, etc., but
then just freezes at the Welcome screen without going
into Windows! I tried reinstalling XP, but it just does
the same thing!

I've installed many hard-drives and XP several times but
have never run into this problem! When I put my old
drive back in, everything is fine...what is going on??

Thank you!

Sounds like your new hard drive is a bad one. Run a diagnostic utility
from the manufacturer to be sure.
