New Word Templates don't appear

I created a new Word Template and when I use the Action New letter to
Business Contact, the template does not appear in the drop down list.
WHY?

Three possible answers.
1. Was the file saved as a template (.dot) extension?
2. Does the file name also include ltr or letter in the file name?
3. Is the template saved in the microsoft template file. If not it will not
show up in the wizard.
