I just purchased a Windows XP home edition software disc, and it says "For
Distribution only with a new PC". Will I lose all my information on my
existing PC with Windows XE already installed if I try to install this?

Can I install this in an already up and running system?

You probably acquired an "OEM Version" of Windows XP.
That version cannot perform an upgrade over an existing
Windows installation. It must be install "clean" on a reformatted
drive or partition. Only a "Retail Version" of Windows XP can
upgrade over an existing Windows installation.
