New Vista PC freezes locks up

I bought my g/f a new DELL PC with Vista Home. It worked great when I
set it up and copied all her files over. Now however since it has
been at her place she says it randomly freezes up. The mouse moves
but nothing can be clicked on. The reset button doesn't work and she
has to pull the power plug.

I checked the forums and groups. I checked the event log with no
specific errors sticking out. It hasn't frozen in the last two days.
I asked her to watch carefully and I'll post more specifics as I get
them.

Have you installed any new applications that might be incompatible? What
about attached hardware devices, are there any? Have you checked the Problem
Reports and Solutions applet in Control Panel > View History to see if there
are any messages relating to device or application failure?

Nothing out of the ordinary installed - macromedia flash, google
toolbar. No new hardware. I haven't checked the problem reports -
the PC locks up so I believe that it won't have had a chance to write
anything but I will check it.

I know this isn't much help, but rather than pull the plug, she should
be able to hold in the power button for 5 or 10 seconds to force a
shutdown. That works on my new Dell, as well as my 7-year-old HP.
