New Video Card

I want to upgrade my video card, but I don't know what I want to get. I need
good performance for under $200.

What graphics chipset should I get?

I'm thinking about the ATi Radeon 9600 or above, or the nVidia GeForce FX
5700 or above.

I need good gaming performance for the cheapest price.

Thanks for your opinions!

You will get very little benefit from a top of the line
video card unless your other system components support it.
You need a fast enough CPU and RAM to support the fast
graphics you want...If your CPU is over 1 GHz but less than
2 GHz, you need a CPU upgrade as well as a more powerful
graphics card.
List what you have now as to CPU, mobo, RAM and what
monitor size and type, and your current graphics and you'll
get better advice.

What do you consider "good performance" depends on
resolution, frame rates and what games you play and how much
you want picture perfect graphics. What games do you play?

Hi,

I had to rebuild my cousin`s computer because she wanted it optimized to
play FF11. That meant P4 2.4 GHz, 1 Gig RAM, NVidia GeForce 5700 w/256 MB
video RAM, for starters. So what is consider good performance depends on
the game you want to play.

That was a $500 upgrade, wasn't it?
