new version with SP2 needs to get back to SP1

First at all, i don´t like this solution but i have no choice, my client has
a critical software that must be run under SP1 (the provider did´t release a
version supporting SP2 till today at least) my question is:

The PC came with windows XP SP2 previously installed, is there a way for us
to convert it to service pack 1? (the option to get SP2 removed doesn´t
appear in add/remove programs)

what would we have to do?

Should we install a previous version windows XP? the one that came with SP1?

what would happen if we try to install service pack 1? in this SP2 version?

One cannot uninstall SP2 from a system purchased with
Windows XP with SP2. One would have to use an
older, pre-SP2 Windows XP CD and the Product Key
that came with it to perform a "clean install", provided
that license is not installed on a different computer.

That's because it was installed with XP SP2 media.
what would we have to do?

You're only way of getting SP1 on the computer is to format and
reinstall with XP RTM or XP SP1 media.
Should we install a previous version windows XP? the one that came
with SP1?

Didn't I just say something like that? :)

It won't work. You get an error message to the effect that you version
of Windows is newer.

And they should get on the case of the developers of the program that
hasn't been updated for a year and a half, to be SP2 compatible.

That would be a reason for me to consider other alternatives and go with
another company's software.

Clean install of a version of Windows XP pre-SP2

That, or use XP original and then upgrade to XP SP1 .. those are the only
options.

Don't bother trying.
