Please bear with me as I'm use to Win98se only..

Trying to set up a used system (win2k, 1.6 mhz, 56k modem, 40 gig HD,
etc.etc. for my mother-in-law(MIL).
The system came from my sister-in-laws business. It was/is set-up to mainly
run off a server.
When it starts, after the welcome screen (ctrl, alt, delete) a screen with:
user name: BOB
password: (blank)
log on to: which has two choices, one is "dsj" and another choice
"bob(this computer)". Assuming "dsj" is the server..
I'd like to change all this so system just starts w/o need for passwords,
etc. similar to how Win98 can start.
Is this possible?
Can I change username and password?
If not, how can I uninstall win2k and load win98se w/o reformatting HD. I'm
not sure if I have can get all the different drivers, etc.

My MIL uses her older system(win98, 33.6 modem, 2 gig HD, 200 mhz slow ,
slow, slow system) for internet, e-mail and word-processor. She doesn't need
the confussion nor does she wish to learn how to use win2k unless I can make
it similar to win98. We know she'd use the internet and her computer more if
it was faster. It takes her current system 3-4 minutes to fire up and
forever to log on and move around on the net. She jokes about how she'll be
dead before she gets on to do anything. She's 83 and going strong but gets
frustrated.

Suggestion please,

L.

Here's a "possible" problem I'm having.
I have the password to log on to the dsj domain but don't have password to
log on to local computer(bob)(see example below, I highlighted example with
********). Bob is gone..
I can log on through dsj but cannot make changes on this "local system".
Suggestions,

L.

If the pc is no longer a domain member then logon with a local account that
has administrative rights and change it to workgroup mode. Then Control
Panel|Users and Passwords|Advanced, then uncheck the box for "Require
users........"

That's my problem. I haven't worked with 2k so not real sure HOW.

Will/can the help menu step me through it?

I guess what I'm trying to do is have this system "act" as a stand-alone.

Do you know the password for a local account with local administrative
rights? If not contact the seller for it.

I think it's starting to make sense. If I understand the process.
I have the password for the dsj, which I think is the domain/network sign
on.

I'll have to try and get the password to log on to "local computer":
bob(local computer) to make changes.

Correct???

If this domain account has local admin rights, then simply create a new
account and or reset the local administrator account password. Test logging
on with it before changing to workgroup mode as the domain account will
cease to function.
