Hello all,

New to the group and new to Windows XP (just got a new computer - YAY!).
What freeware would you recommend for XP, specifically to tweak some
settings. Also any websites that offer tweaks would be appreciated.

Thanks!

First. Default in XP is NOT to show the file extensions. You can change this
in Windows Explorer by going to Tools > Folder Options > View > UNCHECK
"Hide extensions for known filetypes". What madness made Microsoft to hide
these is a mystery.

Second. I would download TrackerV3 as an alternative to Windows Explorer.
You may still need to use Windows Explorer occasionally, but minimal use
will prevent problems.
http://www.trackerv3.com

Third. Keep looking at alt.comp.freeware and the recommended programs on
http://www.pricelessware.org/

Finally, three sites (amongst many) you'll find useful:
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/index.htm
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp.htm
