[New] TextWiz v2.1 - Multi-Line Search & Replace

M

Mel

Ever had to replace a paragraph or block of text or code in all of your
html or any type files at one time? Sure, you could load all the files
into your html editor or word processor and edit the files manually or
even use its search and replace feature. But does it support mutliple
lines of text? Even if it does, it would take a long time to load each
and every file if you have many. TextWiz handles this task nicely and
many more, not only just on files but on blocks of text from the
clipboard as well.

Features:
- Multi-line search and replace in any number of files from the same
folder.
- Optionally backs up files before making changes.
- Optionally just searches for text in multiple files, returning a list
of filenames that contain the text.
- Option to view files in either its own window, Windows Notepad, or
default application.
- Can extract Meta tags from html files for manipulation.
- Upload files via FTP right from within the program.
- Counts lines, words, and characters in any file.
- Counts number of occurrences of a specific keyword or phrase in any
file.
- Monitors clipboard for text (just like Text Tally), tallying number
of lines, words, characters, and optionally, occurrences of a
specific keyword or phrase in the text.
- System Tray operation.
- "Favorites" menu for easy access to frequently used folders.
- Clear entire contents of "Text to Search For:" and "Text to Replace
With:" boxes with one click.

None of the links get me to a download.

On the Harmony Hollow download page, TextWiz 2.1 is listed as "temporarily
discontinued."

That seems to be one of those anomalies that occur with The Wayback
Machine.

Zipped & Posted to ABF.

Some of their programs are labeled 'no longer bundled with SaveNow
advertising software'. And the TextWiz page shows a notice 'temporarily
discontinued' as spoon2001 already pointed out. Are you sure the version
of TextWiz you linked to (and which you posted to abf) is not Adware?

The setup is packed using InnoSetup 2.0.11. Unfortunately, I don't have
a means to extract that version. So I can't test it (safely), myself.

Hm. What's that, then:
'SaveNow, a free offer companion, is included with this program ...'

It is v2.1 from Winsite. The one I loaded first was corrupt. And it is
gone from my disk. I don't like Adware, even if you can deselect the
component. (IrfanView is an exception for me, at the moment.)

I compared the TextWiz 2.1 DL'd from Winsite and the TextWiz 2.1 DL'd
from WayBack Machine: They were the same.

A scan with SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware revealed no adware
installed. (Install of SaveNow not Selected)

I would have liked you to mention that v2.1 *optionally* installs an
Adware component after my first question. In that case I wouldn't have
touched the executable in the first place. I'm waiting for the next
version, which maybe has no Adware attached, at all.

By the way, the program seems to be written in VBasic. Such programs
have to be good beyond any other available to get into my archive.
As long as it doesn't get rid of SaveNow, entirely, I'll stick with
BKReplaceEm and some other tools which do one part or another of the
things you mentioned TextWiz doing.

Shmoo programs often have serious flaws in one or more components. So
I'm always skeptic when seeing one, anyway...

I must be missing something. I've used Irfanview for years and I've newer
seen a single advert.

Since v3.92 the IrfanView installer is bundled with eBay search bar.
First it has been 'ticked on' by default, but now it must be explicitly
selected. Nevertheless it is an advertisement for a service I detest
because of its privacy policy. :-(

Strange. I have v3.95. No trace of EBay searchbar or any other advertising,
and I can find nothing about it in the helpfile.

www.irfanview.com/faq.htm (Look unto the last entry.)

You can also use this as a description on how to turn it *on*.
Be aware that the FAQ applies to the current version (v3.97).

I don't remember if there was an option to switch eBay on/off
present in v3.95. But it sure came with the eBay bar. So - if
you still have the installer at hands - just fire it up and
see the eBay option shown. :-(

Btw., the FAQ entry on eBay also appears inside the help file
of v3.97 and those can be searched for using the full text
search mode.

Thanks for the info. I don't need eBay, so I'll leave things as they are.
