I was going to go with the 8core but decided the money saved would purchase me a new PSU. Plus the fact unless i'm using Linux I wont really benefit. In retrospect I will purchase a 6core instead

Any opinions? Bare in mind the cost of above is £318 free postage from Amazon

That lot comes to around £320.00 - excellent value and imo good choice of components.

Might be worth considering Abarb's advice, must admit I'm not up to speed on AMD CPU's atm.

You going to use stock cooler, one you already have or get a new third party cooler?

Couldn't believe how reasonably priced the AMD CPU was, makes me consider upgrading bedroom machine which is AMD based but the board/CPU/memory are now almost six years old.

PS: Using an FX8120 CPU would add £31.00 to total cost of system if purchased from Amazon.

I prefer Intel myself atm but adding the PSU which TXD needs to that Intel bundle gives a total cost of £434.00 which is around £115.00 more than the system he specified.

You pays yer money... ;)

Ah yes, PSU. Forgot about that.....

I was actually considering the 8120 myself before the 8150.

It will generally be used for day to day stuff and bit of gaming ( i don't game that much anymore) and some coding of video etc. I could afford to buy the 8150 or the 8120 however i'm not sure if i could justify the cost of the 8150 being worth it unless MS pull their finger out and introduce proper coding for the Bulldozer? The stock cooler does not seem too do its job as it should according to reviews i've read?

I have also looked at the Water cooled version for an extra £50 which is tempting aswell. CORRECTION £86ish

Yes the Intel market is far too high a price for me...
Too be honest I need a machine that is going to last as long as my current one. It's the best part of 8years old now (I think) It cost me then almost £600. So this upgrade hopefully will last as long as this one. 6 or 8 core is pretty much future proof for several years I think.

Too add i'm not really interested in the AMD/Intel arguement I just want a PC that is rock solid and does it's job well regardless of who thinks which is best.
That reminds me of the Spectrum/Commodore discussions of the past and Xbox/PS3 arguments

I will be doing a little more digging etc and decide soon :)

Thanks guys

I was just having a peruse out of interest and found this which with a psu puts it above the original budget. However there was a very interesting extra included with the mobo(which sounds first class)

I think i've decided to go for the FX 6200 it is extra however plenty of room to overclock in the future should I need it.

I know the Piledriver is due out this year but no idea on pricing so will stick with this choice for now. Will probs be ordering it all this weekend :)

Items arrived today, WELL NOT all. I'm a little disappointed with Amazon. They have taken it into their wisdom to only deliver the motherboard and CPU.

The other items arrive tomorrow!

Why? I have no idea.. However I can't even begin the build now which is a pain because I'm away from tomorrow until Thursday evening...

Very annoying Amazon

That case sounds the biz.

The extra touches like magnetically mounted dust filters
