new sony handycam dcr-dvd405/d805

i can not get windows movie maker to acknowledgethis device. message saying
not plugged in ect. having to load into picure package and bring over. any
ideas? also windows movie maker keeps hanging up tried compatability issue
with filters can not find correct one to unfreeze!
 
For the camcorder, you'll need to convert files before importing. See the
Import Movie Source Files > Video > Discs page of my site...

for the freezing issue, check the Problem Solving > Crashes and Hangs
page... for help about which ones could be the issue
