I upgraded the Search program and I am flabbergasted with the new one.
It tries to do things I don't want it to and does not do what I would
like it to do. Next to the search field there are 2 buttons: Desktop and
Web. Why on earth would I want to search my desktop? I know what is in
there, I see them every time I turn on the computer. As for the web, I
only want to search it when I am connected to it, and then I do the
search from the browser.
And when I want to locate some file in the hard drive, because for
example it has not been terminated when closing windows and want to get
an idea what it is and where it is located, the new search will only
find it if it has been indexed. True, the old Search would take some
time to find a file, but then I am afraid that assigning the whole of
the hard drive to indexing may affect negatively the performance of my
machine. Since the occasion does not happen often, I would rather wait
for the Search to locate the file on these rare occasions than having my
machine slowed down at other times.
At least, is there any way to customize it so that one button next to
the search field says simply "Search", and when I click it it starts
searching the indexed locations unless I specify a particular folder?
Of course I would also prefer if it were possible when I specify a not
indexed folder, to search it the old-fashioned way.
