Get ordinary search back?

XPHome SP3 all up to date.

Just found that the find files etc function has been replaced by Windows
Search.
I don't need to search very often, and I do not want another big index file
on my laptop, so is there a way to get the old search function back?

Cheers,
S

I am guessing that you have installed the optional update "Windows Search
4.0 for Windows XP (KB940157)".

Select it in Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it.
This will revert you back to original "Search".

When offered again, expand by clicking on the + sign and tick "Don't show
this update again".
Thank you Smirnoff, you are a gem!

All done now thanks to Smirnoff: I must have got carried away ticking the
optional updates at some point and had not noticed the effect. I think when
one only wants to search through one drive or file set (in this case an
iPod) the Windows Search looks rather less intuitive than the old search,
and I presume, if it's intended to compete with Google DS it probably has a
big index file I don't need.

Incidentally you might save me a further question. Being new to iPod I've
only just discovered their weird file renaming habit, such that Windows
can't see the mp3 file names once you've put them on the pod.

There seems to be quite a lot of freeware out there claiming to simplify the
copying back to Windows of stuff from one's iPod. You, don't happen to know
which is favourite by any chance do you?

Er no. Specially made to stop you getting stuff off your iPod.

However, after asking around I found Sharepod to be just the job. Simple to
copy off the pod and on to the blackberry with no fancy apps and editing
suites, just plug in pod and you're off.
