New reminder not using default time

Outlook 2003 - Under Tools, Options, I set my default reminder to 10 minutes.
When I go to Calendar and click New Appointment, it uses 10 minutes as the
default. However, if I simply double-click on the calendar to open a new
appointment, it sets the reminder to 18 hours. This seems to be an obvious
bug - anyone aware of a solution or work-around?

Outlook is probably opening a new all-day event, not an appointment. The
default reminder for all day events is 18 hours and it can't be changed.
Have you tried double-clicking in the appointment area to create the new
appointment, instead of at the top of the calendar?

You are correct - double-clicking on the month or seven-day calendar opens a
new event which defaults to all-day, so it uses 18 hours as the reminder. If
I go to the single day or five-day view and double-click in a specific
timeslot, it creates an appointment for that specific time period, not an
all-day event, and uses the Default Reminder time correctly.

If you create a calendar item as an all day event without resetting the 18
hour default, what time will that alarm sound? From what time does it count
back from?
