New Printer/Hardware wizard at every boot

hello,
I've seen this problem on here. Tried all the solutions.
none work.

I've XP Pro and a HP DeskJet 940c printer connected by
USB.
I finally cleaned out all the old drivers and registry
keys and got the printer software installed and the
printer working (it's even in the printer and faxes page
of the control panel). However I still get, with out
fail, the "New Hardware wizard detects printer" twice at
every single boot up of my computer.
The Microsoft Knowledge base article some people have
been refered to in this group doesn't work/help because
I'm using USB. The coribright article and others
referenced in this group also have not worked.

Help??
It really is a pain now.

Change the BIOS settings for the LPT port to EPP.

Uninstall completely and then reinstall....

Use the updated drivers from the HP website at
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/software/940-enu-xp.exe

I'm starting to feel like we're going round in circles.
I've already done this multiple times.
Any further suggestions??
Move to Linux?
